Multiwell plates, or microplates, are an important fixture in the clinical, analytical and molecular biology laboratory for conducting assays such as ELISAs. When selecting a microplate, the user should consider such factors as the type, number and volume of samples to be examined and whether the microplate will be able to withstand exposure to solvents. Examples of microplate materials and detection modes are given.
