Abstract
Cables are an everyday component in automotive, household, and electronics industries that are often taken for granted. To ensure the reliability of cables for years to come, companies such as KEMA Energy & Sustainability of The Netherlands use their materials testing expertise to ensure the safety, reliability, and future performance of cables, notably, the plastic sheaths and insulating materials that they are comprised of. By using the BINDER APT.line ovens for long-term temperature cycling and validation, DNV KEMA is able to test the effects of heat on cable components at consistently applied high temperatures, giving the researchers perspective into the cables’ anticipated performance and quality over a life of several decades.
